Visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Pittsburgh ZooThe Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium rank among the top-visited attractions in Pittsburgh. It’s one of the six main zoo and aquarium establishments in the United States. Located in Pittsburg, Highland Park, the zoo sits on an expansive land measuring over 77 acres and is home to more than 4,000 animals and 475 species. Also, it’s home to over 20 endangered species.

Animals at the Pittsburgh Zoo

You can watch different specials on animals on s linear walking path from the start of the work to end. The linear arrangement allows visitors to see as many animals as possible. They exhibit various animals such as lions, leopards, flamingos, red pandas, komodo dragons, etc.

Also, you get to see the imitation of African Savanna featuring animals such as elephants, cheaters, giraffes, rhino and antelopes living in their natural surroundings. After the African Savannah, there’s the primate centre, an indoor facility with controlled temperature hosting a wide variety of monkey species, lemurs, gorillas, sloths, orangutans, and more. Also, there’s an additional area hosting endangered specials such as Galapagos tortoise, warty pigs, a clouded leopard, and more.

Animals at the Pittsburgh Aquarium

After checking out the animal sections, an entrance to the Pittsburgh aquarium follows. The expansive aquarium features aquatic animals of different shapes and sizes. Some of the aquarium animals include starfish, stand fish, jellyfish, reef sharks, salamanders, etc.

The multi-floor aquarium also houses larger aquatic animals such as sharks, sea lions, polar bears etc. The polar bears have been allocated a big facility that’s continually being expanded and improved.

Swimming and underwater walking

The zoo has sections with large swimming pools and underwater walkways. If you are fortunate enough, you’ll get a chance to watch polar bears play at the underwear walkway.

At the zoo’s end, there’s a scary segment hosting reptiles and nocturnal animals such as rattlesnakes, spiders, large bates, mole rates, etc. This section is not recommended for the faint-hearted.
